01 /Fire safety
Living in halls means we have to remind you of some important fire safety information...
Only the following electrical appliances are permitted in your room: hair care equipment, stereo, television, clock/radio and computer equipment to prevent a serious fire.
REMEMBER:
- Items like mini fridges, microwaves and electric fan heaters are not permitted (unless cleared by the Accommodation Office on medical grounds)
- Never leave your cooking unattended
- Always unplug hair straighteners/curlers after use
- Leave the smoke detectors alone! Don't tamper with or cover them
- Don't smoke anywhere in the building - anyone found smoking will be fined £50
- Never leave fire doors propped open and tamper with any fire equipment*
Having a greasy grill pan and oven can also be a dangerous fire hazard, so clean them regularly. It's a good idea to open windows and keep kitchen fire doors closed when you are cooking too!
*The University has a zero tolerance policy on students tampering with fire equipment. You could be expelled and face a criminal record.
