Stina's Blog: Spice up your porridge
Porridge is the ultimate winter breakfast. It’s warm, easy and quick to make and it is also cheap which makes it ideal for us students. But plain porridge can get dull really quick so here’s a few ideas on how to make your porridge a little bit interesting.
Basic Porridge Recipe:
- 1 cup milk (can be dairy-free milk as well)
- ½ cup of porridge oats
Mix the ingredients together in a suitable microwave-safe bowl and microwave for one and a half minutes. Stir and microwave for the same amount of time again.
Now spice it up...
- Banana Cinnamon Porridge
Add some cinnamon to your porridge before you cook it. (Personally I like to add A LOT!) Cut up a banana while your porridge is cooking and add it once it is ready. If you like your breakfast sweet you can add some honey to it as well. - Peanut Porridge
Add a spoon full of Peanut butter to your porridge after you’ve cooked it. If you fancy it pumpkin seeds go great with this. Or try chocolate chips, you can’t go wrong with chocolate. - Chocolate Porridge
Mix cocoa powder with the porridge oats before you add milk and then cook the porridge like you usually would. Yummy! Alternatively you can just add some Nutella to your cooked porridge. - Berry Porridge
Add your favourite berries to your porridge. Frozen berries are a cheap alternative you just need to remember to defrost them before adding them. - Almond Maple Porridge
Add sliced almonds and maple syrup to your porridge to create a healthy and yummy breakfast.
Hopefully these porridge recipes will make your start into the day during exam season a little bit more pleasant.
