Fun things to do in Liverpool for FREE!

There is so much to see and do in Liverpool but we appreciate the struggles of budgeting your student loan for the semester! Here are our top picks for things to do in Liverpool for free!

1. Liverpool Central Library

Central Library is home to 35km worth of shelving and around 500,000 books. Under the glass dome, the library’s impressive spiral stair case will lead you to the famous Picton Reading Room. Make sure you go out onto the roof terrace to get a great view of the city!

2. Albert Dock

Home to some of Liverpool’s best restaurants, bars and bakeries, the Albert Dock is a great place to explore. You’ll also find galleries and museums here such as Tate Liverpool and the Maritime Museum (entry is free but donations are welcome).

3. Explore Baltic Triangle

Also known as Liverpool’s creative district, the Baltic Triangle is just 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and offers a hub of food and event venues, bars, independent cafes, breweries. While exploring, make sure you keep an eye out for the street art and graffiti. If you find the famous Liverbird wings, you have to take a picture – this is a must!  

4. Take a picture with the Beatles

Head down to the Pier Head to take a selfie with the Beatles statue. You’ll find the famous four just in front of the Three Graces (Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building) and are there all year round. The installation of the statue in 2015 coincided with the 50^th anniversary of the Beatles’ final gig in Liverpool.

5. Visit the Museum of Liverpool

The Museum of Liverpool is located on Liverpool’s waterfront overlooking the River Mersey. The museum has 3 floors worth of Liverpool’s history, heritage and culture - you could easily spend hours exploring here. When you get to the top floor, spot the life size Liver Bird! 

6. Liverpool Parks and walks

Liverpool is fortunate to have a great choice of green space throughout the city. If you’re living in Greenbank Student Village you’ll be lucky enough to have Sefton Park and Greenbank Park right on your doorstep.

If you fancy escaping the city, try Allerton Country Walk which is a 2-3 hour walk through woodlands and parks. You can see a map of the walk and the suggested route here.



7. Sefton Park Palm House

Sefton Park Palm House is one of Liverpool’s famous venues for arts and culture. You’ll find a range of events taking place throughout the year such as exhibitions, film screenings, markets, concerts and classes. On a quiet day you can visit the stunning glasshouse and take a look at plants from across the world on display. Entry is free to the palm house but donations are welcome.

8. Red Brick Market

Located in Baltic Triangle, this old warehouse has been transformed into a vintage market. It’s full of antiques, independent stalls and local artists. It’s free entry but of course you might find something you want to buy!
