Personal safety on campus

By bwoolley 21 Jun 2016

You are responsible for your safety when in and about campus. Here are some important tips for ensuring your stay with us is a pleasant one.

If it looks suspicious, report it.

If you see something happening and you don’t like the look of it, make sure to contact security ASAP. Remember – you are NOT wasting their time, it is their job to investigate any queries outside of office hours. You can find the number for your campus here.

You don’t know that person?

If you see anyone around the campus or your building/corridor you do not recognise alert security ASAP. Remember all guests MUST be signed in. Don’t worry about getting your friend/neighbour into trouble. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

If someone is making noise, please do not take matters into your own hands. This can often make things worse. Always contact security out of office hours, or fill out a student query form via Evision.

During the night

Never travel by yourself at night. Always take a friend with you, even if you are only going out for a 2 minute walk. Not only is the company nice, it will help ensure your safety. Make sure if you go for a night out you only use registered taxi's. The Student's Union run a Taxi scheme with a local taxi firm, contact them for more info.

If you are walking home after a night out, avoid walking back alone, and always use well lit routes. Where possible make sure you use the safer walking route by following the sign posts.
