Stoptober is the perfect opportunity to improve your health and give up smoking!

At UWE, we strongly promote and support the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and a healthy campus. Why not take the month of October as the perfect opportunity to give up smoking or vaping, if you currently do it? It will improve your health, save you money, and make you Feel Good!

  • Every year around 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking

  • Smoking increases your risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions

  • Cigarettes contain more than 4,000 chemicals such as formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide

  • The average smoker will lose 10 years of their life due to smoking

There are numerous health benefits of stopping smoking, including:

  • Your lung capacity improves by up to 10% in 9 months, making breathing easier

  • Feeling less stressed as nicotine addiction causes stress. This is often mistaken for other stresses so it can feel like smoking reduces stress whereas this is not the case

  • Living longer! Men who quit smoking by the age of 30 add 10 years to their life
