Register to vote in the General Election!

By UWEaccomm 28 Apr 2017

Our Prime Minister has called a snap General Election, which means that once again we’ll be heading to the polls on June 8th. Even if you agree with Brenda from Bristol ‘you’re joking. Not another one!’ it’s still really important that you register to vote by May 22nd and have your voice heard in this General Election.

You have the right to vote, and help to elect the MP and party that you want into government. In the general election in 2015, only 43% of 18-24 year olds voted. Don’t be part of that 57%! Every vote counts, and your vote could be the one that makes a real difference. Overall 66% of eligible voters did vote in 2015 – the number of those that didn’t vote could have changed the results.

We want to make this as easy as possible for you to vote and have your voice heard, so the Students' Union are going to be on campus with iPads and paper forms to get you registered. We’ll also have sweet treats and prizes to be won, if the thrill of taking part in democracy wasn’t already enough for you!

The Students' Union have also written 10 reasons why you should register to vote, which you can read here: https://www.thestudentsunion.co.uk/news/article/TheSUatUWE/10-Reasons-Why-You-Should-Register-To-Vote/

Make sure you keep your eye out for us on campus, but if you want to get on it straight away you can register to vote here: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

What are you waiting for?
