By GlensideRAs 12 Aug 2019

We asked Nathan our 2018/19 Resident Assistant his top tips for making the most of first year! Nathan lived on Glenside Campus and was in his first year studying Social Work.

How did you feel before you moved into Halls?

Excited but nervous at the same time, it's totally normal to feel like this before starting. Everyone's in the same boat.

Did you manage to get in contact with anyone living in your flat/building before you moved in?

Yes through halls life on facebook, which you can find here -

What’s the best thing about living in Halls on Frenchay/Glenside campus?

How close it is to lectures and saves all the travel in first year. It also makes it a lot easier to make friends.

Why did you choose UWE?

UWE is a good university. The city is also great, there's loads to do. I also have family in Bristol, so it made sense for me to study here.

What are your tips for Fresher’s?

Look after yourself, be careful and drink responsibly. Remember simple thing like drinking lots of water. Speak to as many people as you can in the first few weeks, everyone is in the same boat.

What’s the best way to make new friends?

Most importantly be yourself and join societies, try and meet like minded people. Check out all the opportunities that the Students Union offer here -

What should you bring with you to uni to make sure you feel at home?

Plenty of photos to help decorate your flat.

What are your favourite places to eat/go out for drinks in Bristol?

Nova Bar - they have a great open mike night on Tuesdays

Thekla is also one of my favourite places to go , they have everything from club nights to music to festivals in the summer.

V-shed & Lola Lo's are another couple of my favourite places to go out.
