Meet the Site staff: Tŷ Beck, Beck House

By ELeyshon 16 Oct 2019

The staff
When you first arrive at Beck House, you’ll be greeted by a small building that looks like a glasshouse, within which you will find site staff – Les Evanson and Steve Lewis. In an instant of meeting them both you understand why the students at Beck fall in love with the place and often end up staying for a number of years.

Les

Les has worked at the University since 1982 and talks of enjoying the experience at Beck of becoming a part of the residents’ lives. Les is hard working and committed, thriving on conversation with students. He is always eager to address any questions and sort any maintenance concerns at the earliest possible convenience. Les is also thrilled to have become a grandad, huge congratulations Les.

Steve

Multi-talented Steve, who excels at bowls and carving, thrives on sharing his own local knowledge of the Gower with students. Having been raised in Pennard, you’ll be sure to hear him explain some walks with expertise. Steve, like Les, enjoys chatting and helping students in all ways possible. He also raised over £2,000 for Maggie’s cancer support charity. What a guy!

A community feel
Both Les and Steve pride themselves on creating a friendly community atmosphere on site. Both encourage communication between the residents and themselves and as residents pass by you will see them raise a hand or pop in to reception for a chat. They described how the greenery had just been full of children playing that brings a lot of joy to the residents and families. On other occasions the staff and students alike enjoy working in the tranquility and quietness of Beck House and its surroundings.
