Did results day not go as you had hoped? Don't panic!
If your exams didn't go quite to plan and you now have resits to prepare for, make sure it doesn't happen again by following these seven steps to re-sit success...
- What went wrong first time round?
The best first move is to take a step back from the specifics of the exam and think, why you weren’t successful first time round? Change it this time.
Did you give yourself enough time? Start now.
What topics didn't you understand? Can someone help?
Do your revision techniques work for you? Try something new.
- Map out a timetable
Draw up a revision plan that covers your whole period starting today. Leave a few days spare at the end to allow time for anything unexpected cropping up, like a family event or a difficult topic. The trick is to stick to it and cross things off as you go!
- No time like the present
Start early, start NOW! Be sure to stick to your guns too. If you work better in the morning, get up and at it early. If you work better in the evenings, spend the morning getting fresh air and brain food.
- Don't waste time
Prioritise difficult topics so you don't waste time recapping what you already know. Social media and group chats will waste a lot of your time too. There's nothing less motivating than scrolling down feeds seeing people relaxing on a beach. Switch it off so you can focus!
- Treat yo'self!
Just because you have to revise doesn't mean you can't do things you enjoy, like playing sports, watching films, and eating your favourite foods. Use these as a reward for completing a revision task. This will make you feel motivated to work.
- The soundtrack to your revision
Just like music can get you in the mood for a workout or a night out, it can put you in the right mindset to revise! The right tempo and volume can even help you to work more productively. Find out what music suits your revision best.
- Switch up your study space
Studying in different spaces has been found to improve memory recall. Got a lot of information to take in? Then get out of your room and get to the library, or head to the nearest coffee shop!
Don't be disheartened by resits. Follow these steps and you'll soon realise your goals aren't as far away as they seem!
