Last week was Student Volunteering Week and the Students' Union challenged YOU to rack up 600 hours of volunteering between you...
All around the city, Hallam students volunteered their time at places like Abbeydale Picturehouse, Zest Community Centre and Whirlow Hall Farm to give back to the community. Other activities included a community clean-up lead by the Islamic Society, a Uni Boob Bash which raised over £130 for CoppaFeel, and loads of student-led events.
In total over 240 students got involved and absolutely smashed the target, with a grand total of 829 hours of volunteering completed! Massive congratulations to all involved!
If you didn't get a chance to volunteer, the Students' Union are holding a Volunteering Fair on 1st March in partnership with Voluntary Action Sheffield, 10am-4pm at the Town Hall.
This is your chance to meet over 50 charities and organisations from around South Yorkshire. You'll be able to speak to them about the volunteering opportunities they offer and register your interest.
Volunteering has loads of benefits...
- It looks great on your CV
- Allows you to make your mark in the community
- Lets you make a difference to the lives of others
- Has a positive effect on mental health
What's more, the Volunteering Fair falls on University Mental Health Day, making it the perfect time to take the first step to volunteering!
