Get Active Week 2019
Take a small step to make big changes during Get Active Week!
Get Active Week runs from 21st-27th January and is your opportunity get involved with physical activity at Hallam, get your hands on a free pass, and take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Here are just a few ways you can be more active;
- Commuting between campuses
Walking between City and Collegiate Campus accounts for around 3000 steps and 100 calories.
Has huge benefits for both you and the environment. Cycling cuts carbon dioxide emissions and reduces noise pollution. What's more, tests have shown that after four to five months of regular cycling, aerobic fitness improves by an average of 13%, and body fat falls by an average of 2-3kg. Regular exercise reduces stress and contributes to mental wellbeing.
Use the map to find the quickest and safest cycle route between campuses. The University provide students and staff with access to bike racks and shower facilities at both campuses to help promote active travellers.
- Use the lift rather than the stairs
Using the stairs shouldn't just be an option because the lift is out of order! Taking the stairs can be a great way of improving health, saving time, and conserving energy. You can burn up to 15 calories per 3 flights of stairs, that's 0.42 calories per step!
If you have an existing membership at Hallam Active you can get a free friend access pass to a social sport session, fitness class or gym session because we know that it's always better to work out together. Keep an eye on your emails to get your free pass!
You can also get a free pass from one of the Hallam Active stands which will be located across campus from 14th-25th January between 11am-1pm.
