Black History Month
Be aware, be informed, be inspired
Black History Month runs throughout October to honour and celebrate the achievements of black men and women in history, and to educate us on those influential individuals.
Sheffield Hallam Students' Union will be celebrating the past and present achievements of black individuals both in history and at Hallam, and their contributions to society and culture.
Throughout the month of October we'll be holding talks, film screenings of Black Panther and Selma, football tournaments, workshops, open mic nights and so much more!
Open to all regardless of background and ethnicity.
Head over to the Hallam Union website for a full list of everything that's happening!
In the meantime why not read up on a few important figures you need to know about:
- Frederick Douglas
- Martin Luther King
- Maya Angelou
- Nelson Mandela
- Rosa Parks
- Bob Marley
- Johnny Bright
- Mary Seacole
Check out the Black History Month website to find out more about the important people and events in history that have shaped our views, and how we live today.
