Well it is officially festival season in Edinburgh and lots going on! Here is a quick guide to help you choose what do and go see…


Festivals and Events

  • Edinburgh Foodies Festival
    4th, 5th and 6th August
    Head to Inverleith Park to enjoy all things food and drink. The festival will celebrate and promote Scotland’s natural larder of quality produce to both locals and visitors. This year, our very own Chancellor, Prue Leith, will be in attendance.
  • Edinburgh Military Tattoo
    4th – 26th August
    Taking place on the esplanade of Edinburgh’s iconic castle, expect an unforgettable evening of music, ceremony, theatre and dance.
  • Edinburgh Festival Fringe
    4th – 28th August
    The greatest show on earth with over 3,000 events. WTFringe!?
  • Edinburgh Art Festival
    All month until 27th August
    The UK’s largest annual festival of visual art, which brings together the capital’s leading galleries, museums and artist-run spaces, alongside new public art commissions by established and emerging artists and an innovative programme of special events.
  • Edinburgh International Festival
    4th – 28th August 
    A celebrated arts festival, hosting three jam-packed weeks full of theatre, classical music, opera, dance and art.
  • Edinburgh Mela
    26th August - 3rd September
    Big, bright and bolywood! The Edinburgh Mela is a music festival and food village bound to leave you wanting more.
  • Edinburgh International Book Festival
    12th – 28th August 
    Bringing readers and writers together, from every age and interest, for inspiration, entertainment and discussion.

Music, Theatre and Comedy

  • Derren Brown: Underground
    14th – 15th August 
    Derren Brown: Underground is the latest stage show from the multi-award winning master of psychological illusion. Bringing together a collection of the very best of Derren’s previous stage work, Underground is a spell-binding experience of showmanship and magical genius.
  • John Bishop: Winging It
    12th – 25th August 
    Comedy superstar John Bishop is coming to Edinburgh with a brand new show WINGING IT in autumn 2017!
  • The Script
    29th August
    Come along to the Usher Hall, one of the venues' The Script will be appearing at, prior to the release of their new album 'Freedom Child' due out on September 1st.
  • Waverley Care Comedy Gala
    18th August
    Edinburgh's biggest comedy event returns with an all-star cast, with special guest hosts Rob Beckett & Russell Kane.
  • Virgin Money Fireworks Concert
    28th August
    The biggest finish to Edinburgh’s summer festival season. Closing the month with a celebration of dance music and a sparkling visual extravaganza!

  • The Craft Scotland Summer Show
    4th - 27th August  
    The Craft Scotland Summer Show is a firm fixture on the craft calendar. Our annual selling exhibition showcases contemporary, design-led craft throughout August, all housed on the second floor of White Stuff, George Street, Edinburgh.

Museums, Galleries and Exhibitions

  • Shadows of War
    All month
    This is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on Roger Fenton's pioneering photographs of the Crimean War, taken in 1855.
  • Douglas Gordon - Black Burns
    All month
    Douglas Gordon’s specially commissioned installation, Black Burns, will be a response to the full-length marble statue of the poet Robert Burns, which stands in The Great Hall of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
