Before you know it, you will have moved into your new house with your new friends and enjoying your new student status!
But just so you're not totally clueless when you first get to university, here are some handy tips...
- Unpack ASAP
Before they leave, make the most of your mum/dad and get help getting your room together! Try to make it as cosy as possible so if you ever start to miss home - you'll have all your home comforts around you.
- Make some friends!
When you get to your flat, you'll meet some strangers who could end up being your best friends for life so get involved with what's going on and make some mates. Quite shy? Try to push yourself out your comfort zone, it'll be worth it.
- Participate in Welcome Week
Your university will have some cool activities (sports, games, gigs etc) happening on campus that you need to check out. They might even be happening at your halls which is a great way to make friends with your neighbours, so get involved!
- Go to your Freshers Fair
This is where you'll sign up to the societies at your university. There is something for everyone whether you've had a hobby for years, or want a new challenge. Freshers Fairs are always full of freebies too - so get yourself enough free pens to last the year!
- Nosy around campus, and time yourself!
See what your university has to offer on campus. Time how long it takes you from your flat to your lectures so you know when to set off too - try to do it before your lectures actually start to save you the awkward late moment!
- Explore your new city
Head into town with your new mates to see what it has to offer. Where is the best place to shop? What are the best restaurants? Google won't tell you everything - you need to get out and see for yourself.
- Sign up to a gym
There might be a gym in your Student Union that you could use which might have some offers. If not, there will be one in town that you could use. It's important to stay fit whilst at university so try to get your flatmates on board - that way you can all (try) motivate each other.
- Take it easy!
It's important to go on nights out and enjoy yourself, just don't party too hard - you'll feel it in the morning! Keep an eye on your money too, your loan has to last a good couple of months so don't blow it all during your first couple of weeks and end up calling mum/dad to bail you out!
