Jess Glynne’s Always in Between is her second studio album. Released on October 12th, 2018, the album went straight to Number 1 in the album sales chart, selling 36,500 copies, following in the footsteps to Glynne’s first album, I Cry When I Laugh

Unlike her previous album, Glynne has sung about her personal troubles in a more spirited way. With more of a soul feel to the tracks, the songs go about being energised.

Some of the tracks to this album were already realised prior, including number 1 hit single, I’ll Be There and top ten single, All I Am.

After the album was released, Glynne released track Thursday more recently, and the opening line “I don’t wear makeup on Thursday’s” has become a hit slogan with some of the younger fans.

What is more notable with this album, is that even with livelier music, Glynne’s voice is on showcase. The very powerful pipes Glynne has showcased on more slow, emotional songs from I Cry When I Laugh, have shown the greater talent Glynne has to give in applying these vocals to a different genre of music.

As the album has a more upbeat, energised way of storytelling, songs like 123, Million Reasons and Won’t Say No all have head bopping capabilities.

If you’re into Glynne’s slower, ballad-like songs, then Insecurities is only acoustic song on this album. Accompanied by a piano, Glynne is able to apply her strong vocals, whilst the piano in the background tries to echo the albums previous themes of being a little bit more upbeat.

Overall, Always In Between shows the extent of the talent Jess Glynne has to show, and that there is much more to her storytelling that just her voice. I for one is very happy that Glynne is able to portray the last 3 years between albums, and the emotional turn in her song writing in such a fun-loving way. 8.5/10
