Millie's Blog: QMU Basketball is going to London!

By Megan 08 Mar 2019

QMU IS GOING TO LONDON!

After nearly six months of training and a none stop victory in every game the past two semesters, Queen Margaret Universities’ (QMU) Men’s 1st Basketball team have made it to the finals!

Universities from all over Britain have been battling for months to get the chance to do what QMU will be doing and nothing could compare to the look of sheer joy and accomplishment on the team’s faces as the clock hit zero.

With only 3 points in it, QMU finished with 60 points to Nottingham Trent’s (NTU) 57 with the last crucial seconds spent in silence as the entire sports hall watched whilst QMU lined up for the final penalty to get them those few points they needed.

With the penalties scored and victory in sight, the last three seconds saw the team passing the ball across the court in order to keep it out of NTU’s hands, slowly but surely leading to their win.

After attending a number of previous matches its safe to say that this match was the most intense and exhilarating, with NTU holding a small point lead through-out the majority of the second and third quarters.

Nevertheless, the support of QMU students and staff lifted the roof (and probably broke the floor too) all the way through as they were kept on their toes watching numerous fouls, falls and free-throws.

With at least 14 victories under their belt this year, not only has the team made it to the Trophy League finals, but also gotten themselves placed at the top of the British Universities & Colleges Sport’s Scottish 1A League.

Thanks to hard-work, training, belief in each other and the support of many, the team will be battling it out against Worcester University on the 27th of March, in the hopes of returning to Scotland with their hands tightly gripped around the trophy they so rightly deserve.

It’s time to bleed blue and scream “Let’s go QMU!!!” one last time this semester!

Good luck team! You got this!
