I hope everybody had a good Easter weekend, it was certainly very different to previous Easter weekends. I spent a good chunk of the day trying to explain to my Mum how to download and use Zoom! We got there…….eventually!
Since the gym closed a few weeks ago I’ve been trying to keep myself busy doing work from home, doing work for my Uni course and trying to stay active. I have been getting my outdoor activity in each day, usually in the form of a walk or a run. I then try to do a HIIT workout or circuit session in the garden later in the afternoon to break up the day. I’ve also been using the new Mywellness app that we launched for some of the workouts, there’s loads of different exercises on it so I’ve been finding that really useful.
Staying physically active at this time is so important, not just for the physical health benefits but for our mental health too. Being in the house for the majority of the day isn’t easy, especially now that the days are longer and the nights are lighter. My advice would be get outside when you can, while still adhering to the rules. Keeping a routine is important too, I try to go to bed and get up at the same time I would if I was working. Social media is obviously a great way to stay in touch with family and friends. I think I’ve done more quizzes in the last 3 weeks than I’ve done in my whole life.
Having all this time on our hands is the perfect time to start something new, and I don’t mean Tiger King on Netflix! If you have ever thought about taking up running, the Couch to 5k programme is a great place to start. It’s a 9 week running plan for beginners. It will get you outside (within the government guidelines!), get you active and provide structure to your exercise.
