How to get to QMU...

By BzSarah 31 Jul 2015

New to QMU? Getting to and from the city is simple, fast and cheap!

Train

The train is the fastest route to get from QMU to Edinburgh city centre and runs very regularly. Musselburgh train station is just a two minute walk from the main campus building and it only takes around 6 minutes to get into town. On your return journey you need to catch the North Berwick train from Waverley Station and make sure to come off at the first stop, see ScotRail for train times.

Bus

Lothian Bus services 30 and 45 both stop on campus. The 30 runs every ten minutes with an approximate journey time of 35 minutes from Edinburgh city centre, and the 45 runs every half hour (Monday-Friday only) with an approximate journey time of 25 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. More information is available on the Lothian Buses website.

Still finding your feet in Edinburgh? Don't worry you can catch the number 30/45 from several bus stops in the city centre. The journey will cost £1.50 each way, or you can buy a day ticket for £3.50 which will enable you to unlimited travel for that day on all Lothian buses.

Bike

It takes around 30 minutes to cycle into Edinburgh city centre from QMU. There is plenty of bike storage available and if you feel tired on the way home there is usually room for a bike on the main train route from Musselburgh. Check out Spokes cycle map to plan your safest and most convenient route.

Taxi

Edinburgh City Private Hire (ECPH) has a fleet of private cars, and if you are travelling from the airport you will have a guaranteed set fare of £30 straight to the QMU Campus. The city also has it's well known black cabs which are always on hand to pick you up, however the prices can be a little steeper for a student budget. Best to travel in groups back to campus after those crazy nights throughout freshers week.

Car

Parking on campus can be very limited, and is now controlled via permits based on several factors including green-ness of your car, and car sharing. Vehicular access is only via a slip road off the A1 southbound. You can find detailed directions here

Plane

Edinburgh Airport is the nearest airport to QMU. From Edinburgh Airport, you can catch the 'Airlink' Bus into the city centre and alight at the Waverley Station stop (just off Princes Street) then take the bus or train to campus. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the airport direct to campus, costing approximately £35.00
