How I deal with stress

By SammyBlogger 18 Apr 2018

I thought I’d dealt with stress over hundreds of times, but once exams start, I soon notice that everything I’d dealt with up until then was nothing...

I had set my future plans in my head and I knew what I wanted to do with my life, but that meant passing all of my courses, which was easier said than done. I now realise that it was definitely not healthy for me to take on as much as I did at that time.

One of the courses I was doing was Shakespeare, which I’d already done twice and I needed to pass this time, and the other was Italian, which I’d never learnt so I wasn't sure what to write about. And then there was also work three nights a week!

After getting my priorities in order, things got a bit more manageable, but I was still stressed out beyond belief!

When you feel like you’ve got a lot on your plate and it’s all becoming too much, these are a few things you can try:

  1. Get organised.
Put everything you have to do in the next few weeks or months on a list and keep it simple. It's a plus if the lists make your tasks look more simple by not giving them a four-page description!
  2. Prioritise.
Then organise the list into what's most important to least important. This way, you get the biggest important tasks done first and work your way down to the least important one. This is to make sure that the important things do not get left behind in the chaos in your mind.
  3. Take enough breaks.
You have to be sure to give yourself a break every now and then, and I don't mean just staying at your desk and watching the odd YouTube video in between tasks. Go out, take a walk, have a chat and a coffee with your friend or exercise to take your mind off everything for a bit.

Hopefully, these tips will give you a bit of peace of mind if you find yourself struggling during exam periods and when you've got a lot of deadlines!
