What's your New Years Resolution?

By AdamResLife 03 Jan 2017

Are you a resolution maker? It seems to be a bit like marmite, people love them or hate them; perhaps it is down to previous experience.

Research shows that 75% of resolutions will be continued through the entire first week of January, but only 46% make it past six months. If you have made a new years resolution, which camp do you sit in?

Our term two campaign - REFRESH - focuses on wellbeing, both mental and physical and experiencing new things, after all isn't that part of the uni experience? Our advice is to make small, achievable changes rather than change your whole life around one issue.

The top 5 new years resolutions that get broken are:

  1. Stop smoking
  2. Volunteer
  3. Eat healthier/diet
  4. Spend more time with family
  5. Drink less

To us, it is surely better to cut down the amount of cigarettes over a year, than go cold turkey for a month and then start again. And how realistic is it to not go out at all? Perhaps it is more achievable to cut nights out down to once a fortnight/month.

Over the course of the next term, we have a number of events which will be advertised on Browzer, Facebook and Twitter and in halls and we would love you to get involved with them. Even if it is one thing you wouldn't normally do, we hope to see you there.

Happy New Year from all of us at ResLife.
