Picking the right flatmate/housemates

By vanessara 06 Mar 2017

So, many of you will have started to look for a place to stay next year, but finding the right flatmates for you could be tricky!

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Noise: Do you and your new flatmates have similar opinions on what is loud and what is quiet? Perhaps differences in timetables can be problematic. Are they respectful of others if they are awake at odd times?

Sharing: This may not be an issue at this point, but it is good to clear misunderstandings at the beginning rather than later.

Cleaning: Will your new flatmates clean after themselves? What is their degree of cleanliness and what is yours? Is cleaning once a week enough? Or everyday? Once a month?

Work ethic: Do your potential flatmates have the same kind of work ethic as you? What is yours and their commitment to university work, social life and part time work? Would this affect you?

Guests: Does your potential flatmate have a partner? Will you be comfortable with their partner staying at your house? What kind people will your flatmates bring home? Big parties? Or study sessions?

Hope these help you consider potential flatmates/ housemates carefully!
