Give It, Don't Bin It!

By AilsaEnvironment 08 Mar 2018

WHAT IS GIVE IT, DON’T BIN IT?

We are enormously proud to have raised an estimated £1.3 million for the British Heart Foundation through the sale of unwanted items donated by our students when moving out of their accommodation at the end of term since 2012! We are equally proud that over 4,000 meals have been donated to local people in food poverty over the last two years alone! – All as a result of the ‘Give it don’t bin it’ campaign.

YOU MAKE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN

Each year, before you move out of your student accommodation, inevitably you may have some items that you no longer need, or that you just can’t take back home with you.

Manchester Met have been working with our campaign partners to make sure that next to nothing ends up in landfill, and that we make use of items that would otherwise have been thrown away, supporting our charity partners the British Heart Foundation, and the Manchester Central Food Bank.

This year’s campaign launched on the 5th March 2018, we will be visiting you in your accommodation to distribute information about the campaign and leaving ‘pack for good’ bags so that you can easily donate.

WHAT CAN I DONATE?

TO THE RED BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION DONATION POINTS AROUND CAMPUS:

Donate your clothes, books, kitchen and home wares, and electrical items to the British Heart Foundation. Simply put the items in the ‘pack for good’ donation bags and drop them into the external red donation banks near your accommodation, or into the internal cardboard donation banks, which may be available in your laundry areas.

If you need more ‘pack for good’ donation bags, head to your reception area and there’ll be plenty more at the reception desk.

To check out what you can and can’t donate, read the campaign leaflet or visit https://www.giveitdontbinit.co.uk.
