Meet Your Warden - Dover Court & Philharmonic Court

By sophiebk 01 Sep 2019

Dr Iain Young is Warden at both Philharmonic Court and Dover Court. You can find out more about your Warden below.

On behalf of the residential advisers (RAs) and myself, I would like to extend a warm welcome to University of Liverpool Halls. Our aim is to make your time here enjoyable and productive and to provide you with the support and encouragement you need at the start of your University career. If you feel concerned or anxious about anything, or if your new life here just seems a bit daunting, we’re around to help. We are also all experienced in the way that the University works so we are a pretty good source of information about who to contact regarding problems with your programme, work, finances and many other things.

I have been a Warden for 12 years now, and before that I was an RA. Helping students has always been an important part of my University life. I am also the Deputy Director of Studies for Medicine, where I help design and run the Medical curriculum. I have a PhD in Physiology and research interests in physiology, biomechanics and sustainable food production. I also run outreach and public engagement projects working with the wider Liverpool community. I think it’s important that we (the University) are good neighbours to the City of Liverpool.

My advice for living in a Hall of Residence and making the most of your time here, and throughout your University career, is that you need to make an effort to take advantage of all that is on offer. Look for ways to meet new people and to make new friends, many of the friendships you make at Halls will last well after you have left University. Try out new activities and experiences, get involved with organising different events, watch out for announcements about the Hall Student Committee (HSC), try out the Give-it-a go programmes and why not join a Society ... or three!

Your Warden's Welcome Talk will take place in Teaching Hub 502, next door to the Guild. You will be in Lecture Theatre 1 and the talk will be at 6pm.

You can find out more what's on in Halls over Welcome here.
