Meet your Warden - Crown Place

By sophiebk 27 Aug 2019

Crown Place Warden is Dr Matt Shillito, you can find out a bit more about him below:

It is my great pleasure, as Hall Warden, to welcome you to the University, and in particular Crown Place Halls of Residence. Like other wardens I also have an academic post in the University. I work as a Lecturer in the School of Law & Social Justice, researching in the areas of financial crime and dark web crime, as well as teaching Banking Law and Equity & Trusts. Within Crown Place, I am responsible for student welfare and discipline. To assist in my role, I have six deputies: Jess Bevington, Sophie Penman, Laurence Anderson, Hannah Hirst, Carl Rooney and Divin de Buffalo Irakiza, as well as an excellent team of 20 Residential Advisers (RAs). They all live in Crown Place, and play an integral part in building the hall community, as well as ensuring order. The RAs operate an on-call duty rota in the evenings, and can be contacted on 07525 886 652 (ABCG Blocks) and 07525 886 652 (DEFH Blocks). Together, we are here to help you, so please do contact us about any issues or concerns, at any time.

For many of you, this will be your first experience of communal life. You are now a part of Crown Place’s sixth intake of students, the hall having opened at the start of the 2014/15 academic year. Crown, is the Universities largest on campus Halls of Residence, just a short walk from the City Centre. It is ideally located for both study and enjoying the many attractions Liverpool has to offer. I hope, the events that the Residential Adviser and Halls Student Committee teams put on throughout the year will help you all settle in and feel like a key part of this great community. The Halls Student Committee, is something we encourage all of our residents to engage with. As well as providing the opportunity and funds to organise and put on events at Crown Place, it is also a great CV builder for those who become members.  I hope that over the course of the next year, Crown Place will come to feel like home for you and that like past residents, you will leave with many happy memories.

All that remains is for me to wish you a safe, and trouble-free journey to Liverpool. I look forward to welcoming you personally on arrivals weekend.

Your Crown Place Wardens Talks will be on Sunday 15th September in the Chadwick Building (the large Lecture building opposite Crown Place reception). You will be in the Rotblat Lecture Theatre at the below times:
