Help! I'm locked out! Carnatic & Greenbank

Getting locked out of your room is a pain, especially after a night out when your bed is calling! Hopefully it won’t happen to you but make sure you understand our Lockout Procedure just in case.


I know where I’ve left my keys, but I need to get in my room now

If you leave your keys somewhere else or misplace them we can issue you with a temporary set for up to seven days whilst you collect/find your own keys. After seven days you have to pay for a full replacement set.

During normal Reception hours our Customer Service Staff can issue you with temporary keys. After Reception has closed our on duty security team (contactable via the Reception desk) will let you into your room and you will need to see the staff at Reception in the morning about temporary keys. In both cases you will need your student ID with you.

Being issued with a temporary key counts as one ‘lock out’.

What are ‘lock outs’?

Each time you misplace your keys and require access to your room your details are recorded and this counts as a ‘lock out’. We know these things happen, so for the first two times you record a ‘lock out’ there won’t be a charge. A third lockout will automatically trigger a £5 fine though, and every time after this is another £5 (it starts to get expensive!). Get to six ‘lock outs’ and you will be asked to meet Hall Management and further action may be taken.

I don’t know where they are – I’ve lost my keys!

Lost keys mean a full replacement set will need to be paid for. The current charge is £10 per key/fob and you will not have a ‘lock out’ counted against you.
