Are you having safe sex?

By sophiebk 18 Aug 2023

Sexual health is important for lots of reasons...

Try not to be put put off by the words 'sexual health' or 'safe sex' as they aren't as scary as what they might seem. It's all about making sure that you are safe, happy and healthy.

Be prepared and think contraception...

Contraception is super important. Not only can it prevent unwanted pregnancy but can also stop the spread of infection and diseases too. There are so many contraception options available and it's important to find the one that works for you. A friend of yours might prefer a different option to you and that's ok as we're all different!

Axess is just one example of a sexual health clinic in Liverpool local to Halls. Axess have a helpful list of all the contraception options available with everything from condoms, coils to pills and more. All you need to do is click here and you'll find everything you need to know about each one.

Axess will pay a visit to your Hall in the first few weeks of term so keep an eye out on our socials @livunihalls for more info! The friendly team will be on hand to give away contraception, testing kits and give advice!

Get tested and screened...

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are two common STIs amongst young people and often occur without any major symptoms. Regular screenings are important because if infections are left untreated for long periods of time, they can cause complications. Find out more about common STI symptoms here.

The NHS website lists different STIs and their symptoms here.

Why go to a sexual health service? Usually going to a sexual health service means you don't need an appointment, you might not need to pay a prescription fee and you can request to see a female and or male doctor/nurse if you wish. Be sure to check the website of the service for more details. Remember, Axess is your local sexual health service in Liverpool.

Whether you decide to get more regular check ups or at least become aware of a local sexual health service, you're taking steps in the right direction towards better sexual wellbeing!
