10 steps to a peaceful mind: Keep calm and...

Sadly, we can't all feel great all of the time.

But when you're feeling a little out of sorts there are things you can do to give yourself a boost and put your mind at ease.

Here are a simple few, try them out! Just remember to keep calm and...

  1. Jog on. Seriously, exercise releases feel-good chemicals which will make you feel more positive - AND it'll help you sleep better, feel fresher and look healthier.

  2. Stop the shots. Drinking might seem like a good idea to take your mind away from what's bothering you, but it's definitely not the solution. That killer headache and lack of sleep tomorrow won't help either. 
  3. Pet puppies. Some universities use playing with puppies as a way of helping students to de-stress. Alternatively, you could visit a petting zoo?
  4. Keep in touch. Talking to family and friends will make you feel supported, and might just help you rationalise your issues. It's always helpful to hear a familiar voice. Friends Friend animated GIF
  5. Eat healthy. Coffee, chocolates and sugar-coated everything will perk you up for a little while, but water and those 5-a-day will help you feel better for longer. Simple.
  6. Relax. A 5 minute lay down away from that essay, an hour away from your laptop doing yoga, or even a weekend away at home (or at a spa if you're lucky!) will give that much needed calming feel.
  7. Techno-no-no. Phone, laptop, iPad - put them down! It's not just technology generally but all of those social media posts and celebs success stories can make you feel rubbish.

  8. Do something you're good at - or get creative and try something new. A sport, a new recipe, art? Accomplishing something always makes you feel great about yourself and trying something different will give you something else to concentrate on.
  9. Get organised. Alone time allows a chance to reflect on what's getting you down and gives you time to set up a plan of action to help get things back on track. Decluttering your room and investing in a daily planner will help.
  10. Forget your troubles come on get happy... by listening to some feel good music! Dance around your room and pump that jam.
