It’s easy to give poetry a wide-berth,
But it shouldn’t bring you much mirth.
So in the spirit of World Poetry Day,
Here are 5 reasons to have a play!
- Poetry sparks your creativity
Writers block during an essay? Then why not take a short break and write a daft little poem about that? Just doing this can re-ignite your brain and get it ticking over again in no-time.
- Poetry = positivity
Studies have shown that focusing on your innermost thoughts, which is key to writing a poem, can block out any external negativity in your life, leaving you refreshed and ready to tackle the world!
- Get sensitive
Poetry increases your understanding of the people and world around you, keeping you in tune with the needs of others and therefore creating a more harmonised you. And who doesn’t need a bit of that in the world?!
- Poetry helps you cope
The act of turning painful experiences into a few lines of verse can really help you come to terms with any emotional trauma in your life. Even if it's just arguing about who's turn it is to clean the toilet, get it down on paper and you’ll feel much better afterwards!
- Why not?
Our last reason is our favourite. Why not try something new? Nobody is asking you to be the next Poet Laureate, but trying something new is always a positive experience.
