Accommodation questions answered
"How close is The City accommodation to campus?"
Our City accommodation sites are approximately a ten-minute walk from Main Campus! You are also conveniently close to Leicester City Centre where you'll be able to do some shopping and close to the railway station too!
Victoria Park is close by to, so you'll be able to get some fresh air in the lovely park. Need to do your food shop? You've got Morrisons which is approximately a ten-minute walk away from our City accommodation sites!
"What are the accommodation options for after first year?"
If you would like to stay in halls after your first year with us, we do offer Returner Accommodation. This means you can return to halls for another year of your degree! You apply on the accommodation portal like you did for first year but instead of the 'new undergraduate' pathway. You would apply under the 'undergraduate returner' pathway.
In response to the current climate we have decided to offer more flexible accommodation contracts that we'll tailor around you and your courses. With the new Ignite teaching programme brought in by the University you'll receive a combination of face to face, on-campus study with flexible digital learning. Ignite is a blended approach to providing the education you deserve without compromising your safety.
You will now be able to book accommodation:
- By Semester (Semester 1 September – December, Semester 2 January – July)
- Or we offer full academic year contracts of 39 or 42 weeks (or 52 weeks for postgraduate students).
Remember that Private Halls/ Housing may not as accommodating as University managed accommodation especially in terms of contracts. We have created these flexible contracts to specifically support our students in their studies for the next academic year as we launch Ignite.
There are many benefits to living in halls: we offer an all inclusive rent with all bills and services included. 24/7 support available with our receptions and security team. We offer a top-notch Residence Life Programme! You can also apply for any of our halls across both of our accommodation sites. So why risk the unknown? We've got you covered!

"What is the process of choosing accommodation?"
First things first! Before you can make an application for accommodation you need to register and create accommodation account on our accommodation portal: https://rooms.le.ac.uk/student_portal/
Once you have registered you are now ready to make an accommodation application! You can browse all the different options for accommodation on our website, check out the photos, 360 tours and all the information available! Choosing what accommodation to go for can be quite daunting! In this case please do get in touch! Call us, email us, reach out on Unibuddy! We’re the experts and we want to help!
Once you’ve chosen some options you’re now ready to add them to your accommodation application! Please be aware you need at least 4 preferences in order to submit your application. You can state specific preferences about whether you would like a single gender/ mixed gender halls and there’s a note section too so if there’s anything you think we should know before we allocate you can write it in there! It’s as simple as that!
"To what extent can you decorate your room?"
Our accommodations are fully furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair, wardrobe, shelves, bedside table, study drawers and wastepaper bin.
Now you'll want to make your room your own! As long as you don't damage the walls or the furniture you're free to add anything you want. Lot's of students fill their walls with posters or pictures. Why not bring some cushions or a nice big rug for your floor! It's entirely up to you!
"Is room allocation first come first served?"
We allocate accommodation based on the preferences you list in your accommodation application which we assess against our current availability at the time of your allocation. You can put up to 5 different preferences in your accommodation application and in the notes section add any information you think we should know when allocating.
In order to receive your most preferable accommodation we do say please apply as soon as you can. If you have an Unconditional Offer of study with the University and you have firmed us on UCAs, we will allocate you as soon as possible but it can take up to five working days for you to receive your offer. If you have a Conditional Offer of study with us we will have to wait for your exam results before we can allocate you!
"What sports facilities are there to use in accommodation?"
There are two sports centres run by the University. The Roger Bettles Sports Centre is located in The Village whilst the Danielle Brown Sports Centre is located on Main Campus, a short walk from our accommodation at The City. There are a wide range of membership options for students to get fit and active whilst studying at the University.
