Cycling haters rejoice!
If you're like me you're not a cyclist. It's not that I can't ride a bike, I just, well, don't have anywhere to put one and find it really boring to be on a bike for a long period of time.
So, I found some alternative activities that would give me a workout and a suntan (win-win-win):
- Yoga in the park
Yeah, okay. This could be a little embarrassing, but who cares. Yoga is great for building strength, flexibility and helping you relax. Plus, you'll be enjoying the great outdoors while doing it!
Basketball doesn't get enough credit. Not only is it a fun thing to do with friends, but it helps you burn a lot of calories, get into shape, and improve your balance and coordination.
Tennis is another great outdoors sport that helps tone muscles and increases strength and flexibility. It also has lots of health benefits including lowering blood pressure and resting heart rate.
- Sailing or rowing
It's the summer - why not head to the beach or a lake for some fun in the sun and exercise? You will work muscles you never even knew you had.
- Trail running
Running, I know, but trail running somehow feels like a lot less work than running on concrete through the city or on a treadmill. It's also better for your ankles, knees, and hips.
Not only will you be getting some wonderful fresh air, but you will be taking in some awesome scenery and toning your body. Hiking is also great for lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke.
- Outdoor bootcamp
Search and find a class! You'll get to meet some new people, have fun and challenge yourself. Most bootcamp style classes are total body workouts, but you can go at your own speed.
The easiest and cheapest form of exercise is walking. There are numerous benefits to walking, including weight loss, lowering risk of disease, strengthening the heart and lowering blood pressure. Oh, and have I mentioned that it tones that booty?
