Moving Out: What should I do with all my stuff?

By BzBarlow 11 Apr 2019

When you come to move out of halls and pack up all your things, you'll probably come across stuff you no longer need or can't be bothered taking home with you.

To give you a hand getting rid of things, Heriot-Watt has plenty of solutions to avoid sending it all to landfill.

Some items will be saved and given to new students, some will go to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and others will go to two fantastic causes...The Broomhouse Food Bank and The Real Junk Food Project based in Edinburgh.

Take a look below at what and where you can donate any items you don't need or want anymore...

If you're not familiar with any of the charities that you can donate to, here's a quick look at what they're all about...

The Real Junk Food Project
They take perfectly edible food that would otherwise go to waste and serve it in creative ways in pop-up cafes and community dinners across the city. It's designed to minimise environmental waste impact while feeding people and creating community!

The Broomhouse Food Bank
They offer free packs of food to families and individuals in crisis. Supported by your donations of non-perishable food, they are able to make a difference to families living in poverty in our area.

British Heart Foundation
You've probably seen the clothes banks outside halls - all those donations go into BFH shops around the country and money made is used to fund research to keep hearts beating and blood flowing.

Remember, anything you can contribute goes a long way to helping others!
