LGBTQ+ History Month
LGBTQ+
LGBTQ+ is an abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer or Questioning.
LGBT+ History Month and why it is celebrated in February
LGBT+ History Month is celebrated every February and is the time to celebrate the history, culture, contributions and improvements required in current fights for LGBT+ equality. In the UK, it is celebrated in February because it coincides with the abolition of Section 28 in the UK in 2003. This section was a law in the UK which prohibited the education on LGBT+ identities and issues surrounding, as it was deemed to be ‘promoting’ LGBT+ people.
LGBT+ History Month at Coventry University
Coventry University Student Union (CUSU) celebrates the LGBT+ History Month every February and is committed to raising awareness of the prejudices faced by LGBTQ+ people, and campaign for greater inclusivity.
The LGBTQ+ Student Community is a space where you can freely share your ideas, opinions and concerns about being an LGBTQ+ Student at Coventry University. They organise events, campaigns, suggest policies and do whatever they can to make Coventry University a better space for you. This community is entirely open to everyone, whether you’re an LGBTQ+ student or an ally who is passionate about making the university a more inclusive space.
If you are interested in joining the Coventry University LGBTQIA+ Society which is an inclusive, safe space for everyone in the community, follow the link below:
