If you don't save energy wherever you can then it's definitely something you need to start thinking about...
There are some very small, simple ways that you can make a difference:
- Switch your lights off!
Did you know that leaving lights on in your house overnight wastes enough energy to make over 1,000 cups of tea? Putting it like that makes it pretty obvious that you should double check that all the lights are off before you go to bed.
- Check that your car windows are closed
If you leave your car doors slightly open overnight (more so in winter than summer) then this will waste more energy than you think. Because you'll have your heaters on trying to warm it up again, before you even set off it'll use the same amount of energy as a small car driving 35 miles!
- Turn off standby
By leaving your computer monitor or TV on standby overnight, this is using the same amount of energy as microwaving SIX meals! Think about it as all that lasagne, chicken korma and chili con carne just going to waste. Not ok...
- Close your fridge door
It might sound obvious but between cooking, leaving your fridge open is using a lot of energy. Get all of your ingredients out before you start cooking so that you're not going in and out. Not only will you be saving energy, but you'll be keeping your snacks and summer meals cool!
