Living in halls is easily one of the best things you experience at university and that's why we want you to have an amazing time.
Sometimes, your neighbours can be a nightmare and that can ruin it for you but nobody wants that!
Being a good neighbour doesn't mean you can't have fun and it doesn't mean that you have to be best friends either, here are our top tips:
Respect is so simple yet so easily forgotten. All you need to do is communicate with your neighbours so that you know what they are and aren't ok with. Always be friendly and polite too!
- If you're a night owl, do it quietly
Some people come alive at night and there is nothing wrong with that at all but just be careful not to wake up your neighbours who might be relaxing or sleeping. Unfortunately, that means no blaring music.
- Not everyone loves parties
You might love having a party at yours every now and then but your neighbours may not. If you're thinking of having people over, drop your neighbours a WhatsApp to see if they are ok with it. And remind your friends to leave quietly...
- Students Union, anyone?
Having a night out is always fun but sometimes it might not be the best idea to invite everyone round. There are plenty of places on campus you can go, the SU being one of them. You'll have a great night and your neighbours will have some peace and quiet - winner!
- There's no need to have windows/doors open
Meaning if you're playing music, having an animated phone call or have some people in your room - people next door, underneath or below can hear everything. Be a bit more considerate and shut the windows and doors instead.
