7 traditional Irish foods you NEED to try

By bzbeth 20 Oct 2017

Everywhere in the world has those foods that you'd only get there and nowhere else...

Sometimes they are a bit weird you don't even question it and sometimes they are great!

Whether you've lived in Ireland all your life or have just come here for DCU, these all need trying:

  1. Irish Breakfast

An Irish breakfast includes bacon, sausages, black AND white puddings, eggs, vegetables and potato. These are all fried in creamy butter and served with Irish soda bread - yummy.
  2. Irish Stew

This can come in many different forms, but each one is amazing. The main ingredients are usually lamb, potatoes and onions and it's exactly what you need to warm you up in a cold Irish winter after a busy day of lectures or writing essays.
  3. Tayto!

Whoever comes to Dublin and doesn't try, and love, Tayto crisps hasn't lived (in our opinion). They are probably one of the best things to come out of Ireland. You must make yourself a crisp sandwich immediately!
  4. Boiled bacon & cabbage

It may not sound it but this family favourite dish is very tasty. Why not try it as a snack before you make dinner to see how you get on? Add a parsley sauce to make it extra tasty, and don't knock 'till you've tried it...
  5. Coddle

This is actually the ideal student meal - you gather together all leftover ingredients and mix them with some stock for a quick, hearty meal for dinner.
  6. Ballymaloe Relish

No burger or hot dog is complete without Ballymaloe Relish! It comes in the Classic Tomato flavour or if you're feeling brave you could try the Jalapeno Pepper one. Either way, it's another delicious Irish creation.
  7. Supermac's

With over 100 of these spread across Ireland and plenty in Dublin - it's perfect when you're in the mood for a bit of junk food.

Enjoy!
